The brain is the originator, processor, and controller of numerous body functions including movement, sensation, communication, mood, emotion, memory, homeostasis, and decision making. To ensure correct functioning and provide protection, the brain is bathed in cerebrospinal fluid, a filtrate of blood produced by the choroid plexus within the ventricular system of the brain. This Silicone Plastinate reveals the position and relations of the ventricular system and choroid plexus on one side and the external undissected structure of the cerebrum and cerebellum on the opposite side. The brainstem and origin of most cranial nerves are also shown.

Typical features
- Whole brain, consisting of the cerebrum, brainstem, and cerebellum, with the arachnoid and most blood vessels removed.
- External features of the undissected cerebrum (one side) including its hemisphere, lobes, lobules, fissures, sulci, and gyri (one side).
- Superior part of cerebrum removed (one side) via a transverse cut to reveal a superior view into the lateral ventricle.
- Temporal lobe dissected (one side) to reveal the atrium and temporal horn of the lateral ventricle.
- External features of the undissected cerebellum (one side) including its hemisphere, lobes, lobules, fissures, and folia.
- Parts of the occipital lobe, parietal lobe, and the cerebellum (vermis and posterosuperior part) removed (one side) to reveal the fourth ventricle and a posterior view of the brainstem.
