The mediastinum is densely packed with numerous anatomical structures that are critical for life. Understanding their position, morphology, relations, and surface anatomy is key to proficient patient examination, clinical reasoning, interventional procedures, and medical image interpretation. This Silicone Plastinate has been carefully designed to provide unique views of the boundaries and contents of the mediastinum via large windows cut through the anterolateral thoracic wall, alongside common positional reference points (e.g., vertebral column, sternum, and diaphragm). The trachea, oesophagus and major vessels can be followed into the neck and abdomen, and the structure and innervation of the thoracic wall, superior part of the abdominal wall and the diaphragm are easily explored.

Key features include
- Thorax, neck, and superior part of abdominal wall (from approximatly vertebral level C2 / C3 to L1).
- Structure of the thoracic wall, including the intercostal and accessory intercostal neurovascular bundles.
- Large bilateral windows cut through the anterolateral thoracic wall and the lungs, parietal pleura (most) and endothoracic fascia removed to reveal the mediastinum, its regions, boundaries, and contents.
