The knee joint is a modified bicondylar synovial hinge joint that permits movement around three mutually perpendicular axes. A complex blend of joint surface geometry and soft tissue support provides the optimal combination of mobility and stability necessary for bipedal locomotion. This Flexible Plastinate reveals the knee joint (including its patellae part) and superior tibiofibular joints within intact joint capsules. The alignment and various movements of the knee joint can be dynamically explored to enhance kinaesthetic learning. Further dissection to optimise views is possible.
