Casts (HC)

View Casts

Casts by von Hagens Plastination demonstrate the shapes, patterns, and interconnections of hollow structures within the body, without the restrictions associated with the use of real human tissue.

Uncovering hidden arrangements

Casts make it possible to study the arrangement of vascular networks, duct systems, and airways that are normally concealed within organs and highlight the segmental or territorial patterns common to many.

Completing the anatomical story

Casts provide a unique insight into the extent and interconnectivity of regional vascular systems, something that is not possible using standard dissection or imaging techniques. For example, Casts seamlessly demonstrate the continuation of vascular trees beyond named vessels, allowing learners to visualize the successive branching required to supply capillary beds.

Taking comprehension to the next level

When used in conjunction with Silicone Plastinates, Casts provide learners with alternative and complementary views that aid visualization, clarify threshold concepts, and drive the learning process.

Do you have questions about our Casts?

What is a Cast (HC)?

Casts demonstrate the shapes, patterns and interconnections of hollow structures within the body. Handmade via polymer injection of anatomical spaces within real human tissue, followed by a tissue removal technique, Casts illuminate the hidden world of hollow structure morphology, without the distraction of surrounding anatomy.

What is an embedded Cast?

Due to their fragility, Casts can be embedded in clear silicone within a glass case (cube-shaped embedding) or in a solid plastic surround shaped according to the related body part (anatomically-shaped embedding). Embedding is strongly recommended, particularly for Casts that will be moved and handled during teaching and learning.

Can anyone acquire plastinated or human tissue-containing specimens?

No. Silicone Plastinates (HP), Bones (HB) and Sheet Plastinates (HS) contain real human tissue and can only be acquired by qualified users (i.e., trained individuals employed at reputable training institutions with appropriate governance) for use in anatomical and health-related education. Casts (HC) and Anatomy Glass (HG) do not contain human tissue and can be acquired and used by anyone, anywhere.

How long does it take to receive specimens?

Due to the detailed and hand-crafted nature Platinates, production timelines may be up to 18 months. Please contact us or your sales representative for more detailed information and to share any deadlines. Anatomy Glass is available within 4-6 weeks.
